Explorations in Dying Electronics

Working at a camera shop does offer some unusual opportunities. Recycled electronics come into our store for various reasons, and in this case, a Panasonic with a dying/dead capacitor. When a photograph is shot in full colour, the green and blue channels of the signal have been totally emitted. The resulting image jitters in and out of view until suddenly the subject is pulled vertically, where all the digital information resolves into a single band.

It all seems to modulate every 30 seconds, which is what makes me believe it’s a dying capacitor that maintains the current for the sensor signal and image processing in the CPU, hence the missing colours. Who knows, but how it renders light is bizarre.
